What is your favourite place?

“My favourite place would revolve around food. I love to eat good food! So anywhere that I can enjoy a good meal with good company. That could be anywhere really!”

In your opinion what is the world’s best place and why?

“The best place in the world would have to be Verona and more specifically the Arena di Verona. It’s a pink colloseum style arena and I felt so at home there. The food isn’t that great, but the coffee is amazing! Verona is a place that I felt I could easily live, that isn’t very common for me when I travel the world.”

What is the worst and why?

“The worst place in the world is definitely Heathrow Airport. Particularly when you’ve missed a connection or have other travel related issues. It’s like a rabbit warren, there is no service, thousands of people and you can be waiting for hours. I despise it!”

What place in the world has the most potential and why?

“For me it’s about balancing how far you explore potential without compromising those characteristics that make a place so special or unique to begin with. I have lived in numerous country towns and they all have so much potential, but what makes them so great is that country town atmosphere. If you go too far pushing potential they would lose that appeal. Every place has potential, it’s just a matter of how far you pursue it.”

What place gives you that real sense of place?

“There are three places – Rome, London and Disneyland. When you go to the historic sites in Rome, it can only be in Rome. Similarly with London, when you visit sites like Buckingham Palace, you can only be in London. Both of these places give me a real sense of place.”

“Disneyland is another place that gives me a real sense of place. When it comes to marketing a place, Disneyland has done it perfectly. When you are there, you know it can only be Disneyland. I only went there a few years ago for the first time and it exceeded all my expectations. They say it is a ‘magical’ place and I can honestly say I really felt the magic!”

What is your favourite building in the world?

“I have no particular favourite building, but my favourite architectural style is definitely art deco. I am a huge fan of the art deco period and love every art deco style building, be it the Chrysler Building in New York or Leeton’s Roxy Theatre in country New South Wales.”
