Proud History. Exciting Future.
In 2000 the Western Australian Government started work on Stage 1 of the Midland redevelopment (Midland Central), which includes the city centre and the adjacent century-old former Railway Workshops.
The vision is of a vibrant regional centre with a strong sense of identity, recognised for its cultural diversity and growing opportunities in commerce, education and the arts.
The 80-hectare historic Workshops site will form a distinctive precinct of educational, cultural and rail heritage facilities and activities. High-quality residential areas and commercial outlets in and around the major heritage buildings will bring life and vitality to the site.
In the centre of town redevelopment is being integrated with the surroundings to achieve a pleasant ambience. New three-storey buildings with shopfronts at street level and residential space above, attractive landscaping and street furniture and a new central park are creating a stylish heart of town.
Throughout the redevelopment area, distinctive public artworks interpret and define Midland’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
