How Do You Envision Singapore in 50 Years?
The Concept Plan is the macro blueprint that maps out a vision for Singapore for the next 40 to 50 years. Every 10 years, the Concept Plan is reviewed to keep pace with changing trends and aspirations, before it is translated into the Master Plan which guides the development of individual land parcels in Singapore over a shorter horizon of 15 years.
Consultation - key to the review process
As the public’s views, ideas and insights are critical to the Concept Plan Review for CP2011, URA began consulting the public last year to hear about their aspirations, and to involve and engage them in URA’s plans to shape Singapore into a great city to live, work and play in. In order to reach out to a wide spectrum of society and engage people from all walks of life, feedback will be sought through various platforms and channels.
Focus Groups and On-line Survey
One of the platforms is the formation of two focus groups comprising of professional bodies, non-governmental organisations, community groups, business, academia and youth, to discuss, debate, deliberate on the issues of quality of life, aging, sustainability and identity. They would conduct in-depth discussions and also consider the wider public’s views gathered via the lifestyle survey and online survey before consolidating their recommendations in a draft report to be presented at a public forum and subsequently, a final report for submission to URA.
Understanding lifestyles
Last August, URA had also initiated a lifestyle survey to understand the lifestyle needs and aspirations of Singapore residents to improve gaps identified in the current provision of amenities and facilities. The lifestyle survey sought respondents’ views on their preferences on aspects of their living and working environments, including the range of leisure and recreational activities.
More opportunities for feedback
With the views of the focus groups and the public taken into consideration, a draft Concept Plan will be formulated. Next year, URA will organise an exhibition and public forum on the draft Concept Plan, where the public would be able to comment and contribute ideas, before the Concept Plan is finalised towards the end of next year.
