The City of Adelaide is the capital of the Festival State, South Australia. It includes the Central Business District, residential areas to the south and the suburb of North Adelaide. City of Adelaide has a population of 18,990 residents and    118, 490 workers. Adelaide is home to a vast mixture of cultures from all over the world, offering a wide range of experiences to residents and visitors alike.

With its history as a "model" European settlement, legacy of mineral, agricultural and manufacturing wealth and distance from other major centres; Adelaide offers an idyllic lifestyle to its small inner-city population.

The City provides a unique living environment with benefits that include walking, cycling, public transport options to work, easy access to services, shopping at premier retail precincts and studying at world-class educational facilities.

By the year 2012, Adelaide City Council aims to achieve 1,700 overnight residents per year and a further 28,000 permanent residents to be accommodated in the City largely in the central area through developments that will also cater for social and business uses.

Investment in affordable housing and greater density in residential developments promotes housing choice and diverse communities within a short walk of the City’s Park Lands and Squares. City vibrancy and cultural vitality is bolstered by more than 900 festivals and events held in the City each year.

Adelaide City Council's priorities for the next three years are sustainability, residential population growth, heritage conservation and business and workforce growth. Exciting and current public space projects that enrich the City include continuation of the North Terrace redevelopment, Victoria Park/Bakkabakkandi redevelopment and Victoria Square/Tarndayangga regeneration project.
